Vaccine experts 'surprised' over Government's 'optimistic' COVID-19 vaccine rollout timeline

7 September 2020 - Vaccine experts have cautioned against the Federal Government's plan to have a COVID-19 vaccine ready by January next year, saying the "surprising" and "optimistic" time frame means safety measures could be "short-circuited".

Jane Halton, former Health Department chief and the Australia representative for the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, told the ABC the time frame was "ambitious".

Westmead Institute founding director and vaccine expert Tony Cunningham said he was "surprised" by the announcement.
