13 February 2017 - More than six million Australians are tipped to review, and possibly scrap, their health insurance policies over the next month before this year’s premium increase kicks in.
Affordability issues will continue to impact policy holders after Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt agreed to an average annual premium increase of 4.8%, which comes into effect on April 1. Insurance premiums have risen around 50 per cent on average since 2010.
Comparison website Finder has said that a survey of 2,031 Australians found that more than one in three would switch providers for a better deal, while almost one in four would abandon their cover if their health fund raised their premiums by more than 5% this year.
