Patrick admits no medical shortages from wharf dispute - yet

Sydney Morning Herald

30 September 2020 - The head of Patrick Terminals has admitted the industrial dispute roiling Australia's ports has not led to any containers of medical supplies being held up en route, despite industry fears, as the stevedoring company and maritime union negotiated all day on Wednesday.

The maritime union, which is part of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union, is at odds with Patrick over pay and conditions at its four ports after seven months of negotiations, and has hit the company with overtime bans and rolling work stoppages.

Elizabeth de Somer, chief executive of industry lobby Medicines Australia, said on ABC radio on Wednesday there had so far been no medicine shortages notified to the Therapeutic Goods Administration because of drugs being held up by the stevedores taking industrial action.
