Patients at risk as hospitals report shortages of ‘1500 life saving medicines

13 June 2017 - Australia's hospitals are running out of life-saving medicines including antibiotics and chemotherapies with more than 1500 shortages reported on a single day in April.

And pharmaceutical companies are failing to notify the medicines watchdog the Therapeutic Goods Administration of the shortages in 85% of cases.

The Society of Hospital Pharmacists says the shortages are forcing doctors to use less effective treatments and patients are having their cancer treatments delayed.
