19 August 2018 - Melbourne academic and lung cancer patient John Burke has spent $80,000 on the drug that saved his life - but soon the miracle treatment will cost less than a monthly gym membership.
Around 1200 lung cancer patients are expected to benefit when the price of cancer immunotherapy Keytruda is slashed from $150,000 a year to just $39 a month after an expert committee approved a government subsidy.
Patients who have high levels of the marker programmed cell death ligand 1 will be the beneficiaries of the subsidy.
